Today I created an exclusive friends list of people on Facebook I feel share my values and beliefs. Sometimes wide spread posts can create a hostile environment even among friends who really feel its necessary to assert in a heavy handed way their own agenda. Less is better in some cases. Sometimes you don’t want to have to defend your opinion with others, you just want affirmation. Social media can be a very great platform of expression and sharing, sometimes it can be a place that tears your soul apart. To make it a better place for me I shrunk my circle and I hope to be happier for it. Now this is in no way to slight others who differ from me but I just wanna be myself less filtered. You get what I am saying.

Something About Family
Originally posted on Facebook two years ago.
In life sometimes the only thing that truly matters is the people you love. Your family by birth or by choice are there to help give you identity and to sustain you and to give you belonging. It’s those people that help you make lasting memories both good and bad. No matter what be sure that you love those people and live together in a peace that knows no bounds. God, the universe, circumstances gave you those connections and community to enhance your life. Treasure the time you have together. Lord have mercy and thank you for giving me such people.
Twitter’s Down

So this happened at 9:30 on Monday (8/15/16) night. I haven’t seen Twitter go down in awhile. No one is immune from a site outage, not even the big boys. Excuse the Facebook notification in the lower right hand corner, which is ironic if you ask me.
In The Headlines, Beware of Clickbait
On Facebook we all have friends who post news clips and other posts from dodgy sources. A website with a strange name that just looks made up, more times than not those sites are clickbait that feature content of a sensational headlines. Usually they are meant to generate online advertising revenue. We have all fallen for those headlines that make us want to find out more because of an article that we find interesting. However, it can be frustrating when you visit those sites only to be disappointed by the content and also the massive amount of ads and further clickbait articles that takes you down a deeper hole. Be careful about where you click.
My philosophy is simple when posting news and other articles on my blog and on Facebook. If its a brand name like CBS, CNN, ABC, BBC, ITV, Huffington Post, The Independent, Buzz Feed, USA Today and the like I will share it. Anything that sounds just made up then you won’t see it from me. I will share articles from satire sites like The Onion or The Babylon Bee (a Christian satire site similar to the Onion). My site will feature shared links, video, embedded Tweets and other media. It’s important to vary the type of content I share.
In a world where we are so inundated with information you have to be careful. Reliable sources with a heritage of sharing accurate information is what you will find here. I owe it to you my fellow bloggers that if I am sharing the news and current events of the day that you can believe it. Clickbait is a nuisance and it can lead to someone being grossly misinformed. Use sites like Snopes and do a Google search to see if what you are looking at is indeed a true story.
Before you share an article, check its source. Some things are too good to be true and you might be padding someone’s advertising budget.
Rambling About Politics on Facebook
Today on Facebook I said I would probably stop posting political posts there. After some offensive responses to some posts which led to the deletion of the comments and the un-friending of a person I had known for 10 plus years. Politics is personal and in this cycle in the United States it’s been ugly and is getting uglier. This campaign between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump is going to fracture some friendships. No two people agree on everything. But being respectful is what we need in times like this.
Now I support Hillary Clinton without reservations. Sure she doesn’t have a spotless record, who does really. Some squeaky clean politicians surely have a few skeletons in their closet. Most everyone in public life have made some enemies along the way. What Secretary Clinton did for children, families and others inspires me plus she has faith that closely resembles my own.
So, here it is. I will continue to post political material on Facebook. However I will originate it from my blog and cross post the link and a small excerpt there. At least I will try it that way for awhile. My blog is my domain, my turf, my site of record here online. My blog fully bears my name. These are the ground rules, for now. Let’s see how it goes.
