NATIONAL COOKIE DAY – December 4 | National Day Calendar

National Cookie Day is observed annually on December 4th. We can thank the Dutch for more than windmills and tulips.  The English word “cookie” is derived from the Dutch word “koekie” meaning little cake. There have been cookie-like hard wafers in existence for as long as baking has been documented.  This is because they traveled well however, they were usually not sweet enough to be considered cookies by modern day standards.

I hope you all have had some cookies with the beverage of your choice. Coffee, milk and tea are good options. No matter what cookie you like there is one that can satisfy ones sweet tooth.

Convenience To Go

OK, this might be the most random and unusual post you read today. Bear with me.

The convenience store is one of the most ubiquitous places in many parts of our country. Socially its an equalizer because everyone needs fuel, bread, milk and yes beer. I stop by this one above a couple times a week for a guilty pleasure or just to wet my whistle. In these places you can now get pizza, espresso, freshly made sandwiches and more. Of course you can get a regular cup of coffee to keep you awake as you are on the road or headed to work.

People who visit there come from all walks of life which makes for great people watching. It can be a challenging place to work too because of the safety factor. But overall the security has gotten better over the years. All in all its a place where community stops and goes from seven in the morning to eleven at night.

Convenience to go can make life better and can keep you moving.

Saturday Morning Breakfast

Omelette, tater tots and biscuits with gravy. I love cooking breakfast on a Saturday. What was on your plate or in your bowl or in a wrapper this morning?

Nachos Anyone? They Are Easy To Make.

So I made nachos today for lunch. On a bed of tortilla chips I sprinkled some ground beef, salsa and cheese and baked it in a 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes. Other toppings such as onions, beans, cilantro, avocado and lime are awesome. Beef can be substituted for chicken or vegan/vegetarian options. It’s easy and family friendly.

This is good stuff. Peanut butter is life, unless you have an allergy to it. Man I could go for a PB and J.

Breakfast At Olive Bean

We tried a new breakfast spot this morning. Olive Bean has a good menu of scratch made food featuring breakfast and lunch options. They have a gift shop too and soda fountain. It’s nice going to a different place to expand your horizons.
