The Theory Of Everything

the-theory-of-everything-1-638

It’s important that we know that there is a universe bigger than ourselves. There is a theory of everything that explains some of those mysteries. Whether it be religion or science making the world a better place is what we should all be hoping and dreaming about.

This movie is about Jane and Stephen Hawking and how they came together and his early work as a theoretical physicist. It also chronicles the early days of his diagnosis of ALS or Lou Gherig’s Disease. Its a great romance against the odds. Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones shine in this movie.

A Wrinkle In Time – A Great Movie For Our Times

a-wrinkle-in-time-still

I am not much of a reader which is shocking to some but today I saw the movie “A Wrinkle In Time” based upon the book by Madeline L’engle. This story of expanding the universe, your mind and your heart resonated with me. We have a daughter and a son trying to bring their back home who has found his way across the universe based upon a discovery that connects its far ends. He ends up in the grips of an evil force that has kept him from the family for four years.

Three celestial beings, Mrs. Which, Mrs. Who and Mrs. Whatsit who are played by Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling and Oscar winner Reese Witherspoon. guide newcomers Storm Reid, Levi Miller and Deric McCabe join veteran actors Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Pena, Chris Pine and Zach Galifianakis in this adventure in space, time and most importantly love.

Ava DuVernay did a beautiful job making the story vibrant, colorful and dark when needed. We need to see more stories that empower young people and especially young women to become warriors for good in their own time and the universe. I recommend this to everyone. Movies like this are important and necessary in the dark times we live in.

Tonight is the 90th Annual Academy Awards from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, California. Jimmy Kimmel will host tonights telecast for the second year in a row. There are some great films (none of which I have seen) nominated and some very talented people up for these prestigious awards. I am hoping for Lady Bird to win Best Picture. Regardless there will be nice looking people wearing great clothes so there’s that.

What do you think will happen?

Black Panther, The Best Marvel Movie Ever!

black-panther-quad-poster

Today I saw Black Panther and it was a masterpiece. It was more than just a super hero movie it is a terrific movie all the way around. Chadwick Boseman has a habit of playing great heroes and the title role of T’Challa/Black Panther is another terrific role for him. This movie does a great job of setting up the back story and carrying the audience into the present. Michael B. Jordan plays a sympathetic villain without going over the top.

This movie takes the best of African Culture and transports us to the fictional country called Wakanda where it is one of the most technologically advanced nations on Earth due to its supply of the fictional metal Vibranium.

Yeah this is a special film and in my opinion its the best made by Marvel. The upcoming Infinity War is going to have to do well to match the quality of Black Panther. I recommend you all see it on the big screen because this movie deserves it.

Wonder Woman Snubbed Of Academy Awards Nominations

The Academy Awards failure to recognize Wonder Woman by denying it of any nominations is troubling and sad. It was a opportunity to recognize a film that was culturally important in the past year. The Oscars needs to expand it’s world view and to be more inclusive of different types of genres that includes comedy and super hero movies. The team of Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins were special in a time when the role of women have social significance. The same could be said for past movies who were also snubbed.
