The Shack: A Report

shack-movie-compressed

Six years ago I read the book “The Shack” and that book changed how I view my faith and what God does for his people who are in great sadness. A movie based on this book is coming out this weekend and I wanted to share with you what I thought about this profound story.

For the past few days I have been reading a great book called ?The Shack?. Written by William P. Young it tells the fictional story of a man named Mackenzie Allen Phillips or as he is informally known as ?Mack? and his struggles with his faith which has been shaken by a bad relationship with his father and the death of his daughter named Missy.

Mack goes through the heart wrenching search for Missy who is abducted by a serial killer. Missy?s blood soaked dress is found in a shack where Mack would go through an amazing spiritual journey that would lead him back to a reconciled relationship with his father and the forgiveness of the killer who took his daughter?s life.

The great thing about this book is how it portrays God in three persons (known as the Trinity). God who is called Papa is a huge black woman…

Farewell Bill Paxton, Thanks For The Movie and TV Memories

tornado-3
Bill Paxton with Helen Hunt in the movie “Twister”.

I remember seeing Bill Paxton in the movie “Twister” it was the first movie I saw on DVD. He was great as a storm chasing meteorologist. His role as a patriarch of a historic feuding family in the TV mini series “Hatfield’s and McCoy’s” was pretty spot on too. Paxton was also in “Apollo 13” with Tom Hanks. Most recently he was in a CBS TV show called “Training Day”. Paxton passed away at the age of 61 today. Thanks for the great movie memories.

42: A Movie About The Story Of Jackie Robinson of The Brooklyn Dodgers

42-poster

This movie was partially filmed in my hometown of Chattanooga. It’s about the story of Jackie Robinson who was the first black baseball player to make a Major League roster with the Brooklyn Dodgers (before the relocated to Los Angeles). There was great bravery and progressive vision in making this happen for African Americans at the time. It’s about providing opportunity for everyone no matter race. During this time in history it was OK in many places to be racist and to have animosity toward people of color We need to remember that this is what makes America great.

A Dog’s Purpose – A Dog Gone Good Flick

A Dog’s Purpose is one of those movies that you need to see because of all the feels. It is about the journey of a dog through different incarnations. There is a good balance of good and bad things in the story so you don’t find yourself getting all weepy, which I expected to be but wasn’t. If you are a dog lover like I am you need to check this movie out. It’s safe for all ages but there are some intense scenes that kids might need some hand holding through. The cast is wonderful and keeps the story moving along nicely. Check it out because we need some feel-good stuff in the times in which we live.
