Farewell Bill Paxton, Thanks For The Movie and TV Memories

tornado-3
Bill Paxton with Helen Hunt in the movie “Twister”.

I remember seeing Bill Paxton in the movie “Twister” it was the first movie I saw on DVD. He was great as a storm chasing meteorologist. His role as a patriarch of a historic feuding family in the TV mini series “Hatfield’s and McCoy’s” was pretty spot on too. Paxton was also in “Apollo 13” with Tom Hanks. Most recently he was in a CBS TV show called “Training Day”. Paxton passed away at the age of 61 today. Thanks for the great movie memories.

42: A Movie About The Story Of Jackie Robinson of The Brooklyn Dodgers

42-poster

This movie was partially filmed in my hometown of Chattanooga. It’s about the story of Jackie Robinson who was the first black baseball player to make a Major League roster with the Brooklyn Dodgers (before the relocated to Los Angeles). There was great bravery and progressive vision in making this happen for African Americans at the time. It’s about providing opportunity for everyone no matter race. During this time in history it was OK in many places to be racist and to have animosity toward people of color We need to remember that this is what makes America great.

A Dog’s Purpose – A Dog Gone Good Flick

A Dog’s Purpose is one of those movies that you need to see because of all the feels. It is about the journey of a dog through different incarnations. There is a good balance of good and bad things in the story so you don’t find yourself getting all weepy, which I expected to be but wasn’t. If you are a dog lover like I am you need to check this movie out. It’s safe for all ages but there are some intense scenes that kids might need some hand holding through. The cast is wonderful and keeps the story moving along nicely. Check it out because we need some feel-good stuff in the times in which we live.

Up until now, we’ve been referring to the next installment of the Star Wars franchise as Episode VIII. Today that changes. Lucasfilm has announced that the film’s title is Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Good news for Star Wars fans because we are getting closer to its release date. This franchise has seemed to have undergone a rebirth of sorts with “The Phantom Menace” and “Rogue One”. Nerds and geeks like me everywhere are stoked about this!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies On A Saturday

This is a fun flick in the spirit of classical Regency era literature with the sensibilities of The Walking Dead. It features Downton Abbey’s Lily James and Doctor Who’s Matt Smith. It’s a very dark comedy that Jane Austen would appreciate.
