October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

tumblr_mu06y1zQQk1ss7eczo1_500During the month of October there is a focus on Breast Cancer and health. Both women and men can be impacted by this dreaded disease. Many people have been impacted in one way or another by this form of cancer.

More than likely you have a family member or a friend who has or has had Breast Cancer. For some the fight was a victory while others have been taken from us tragically. There are stories of everyday people who have been impacted by this disease that have been heroic. My mother-in-law is a survivor because she caught it early. Mary Ellen Locher, a former local TV news anchor here in Chattanooga unfortunately lost her battle but she has a treatment center at a local hospital named in her honor.

Self examination and annual mammograms are important in the fight against this disease. Research is ongoing into a cure for this and other cancers.

For more information on Breast Cancer Awareness visit Healthfinder.gov or the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month website. Help spread the word about this important issue.

A Returning Blogger

When a blogger returns to the scene after a absence it’s a joyous thing. Over time you get used to seeing them post daily and then all of a sudden they disappear so you wonder what happened to them. I am always glad to see folks come back after being away. For some a break is needed because they get writers block or perhaps they need to find their passion again.

Sometimes a bloggers computer is on the fritz or perhaps there are temporary Internet problems which make blogging impossible. I have taken breaks from blogging but I am not gone very long because this is a passion for me. Unfortunately some bloggers have to leave for safety sake and that is a horrible way to be forced offline.

To all who have come and gone and are back again its a joyous time. Don’t stay gone so long next time! Keep on blogging!

Deaths In America – Terrorism vs. Gun Violence

This graph is astonishing and sad at the same time. Something needs to be done about gun violence in our country. The terror at home is a serious problem. I get that citizens have the right to bear arms but I am not sure the founding fathers could have envisioned people with their own private arsenal. We live in such a wild west place now that it is truly scary.

A Ramble About Senseless Violence

Senseless violence is a commentary on the times in which we live. We are living in a wild west world and lives are in the balance. I work for a blood bank where we are a point of response to calamity and chaos. Our work is to help sustain and preserve life in times of pain and injury. I am truly sad about what happened in Oregon and other places. Perhaps its time that something be done about it. Grace, peace and God’s mercy.

All we are saying is give peace a chance.

Numbers and Me, I Hope To Make Friends With Them

Friends, I really suck at math and that sort of thing. My new job requires I spend a lot of time with them and manipulating data. Today I spent time working a spreadsheet and inputting statistics to compile information to give to my boss.

So with that being said I am hoping to keep things simple. Numbers scare me because of how they can be used in good and bad ways. Processing numbers and data is not a new thing for me but there are things I have to do in order to keep my team moving. Today is an example of doing interesting things with rows, columns and cells. I just hope everything adds up.

I am hoping to learn and grow in this so I can become friends with numbers.
