The Wrong Way

In the effort of being nice have you ever said something that might have been taken the wrong way? I sure have, probably a result from overthinking it and being overzealous. Not everyone comes from the same place and that can cause some communication issues. Our cultural and our language make up who we are as people and when you come from different places it can be challenging to be understood. People have the best intentions but can do things that make folks uncomfortable or perhaps put off.

Being gracious, understanding, slow to anger and having some empathy as well as sympathy are great things to have for every occasion.

Figuring people out without being judgmental is difficult but sometimes first impressions is all you have to go on. So how you relate to people initially can be a real challenge. Offending people by some poorly chosen words can be very harmful. Every experience with meeting new people can be a learning opportunity and hopefully you can have a shot at making new friends.

I think being friendly sometimes means making a fool of yourself. It is that experience that can make our lives more interesting don’t you think?

Servanthood

If we were genuinely concerned about the welfare of others and served humankind appropriately the our world would be a better place.  Selfishness, pride and apathy have done a lot of damage to family and community.  Humbling ones self to be willing to get your hands dirty is a sacrifice worth making. Let’s never forget about the generations before us who did that because it was a part of their DNA. Let’s work to make our lives and the world better for all of us, being a servant is cool.

A Compliment

Compliments are great when you can get them. They are even better to give. However it seems that folks aren’t used to getting them these days. We hear and experience such negativity that we need reminding of how special we are. It could be how we look on any given day or perhaps you have done something great for someone. Either way getting acknowledgment for it is fantastic. Lifting the spirits of those around you can be a great way to build people up. Lord knows we get enough tearing down.

Hello friends It’s Thursday which is one more day til Friday. It does seem we work for the weekends you know. I am grateful to have a job where the weekdays aren’t so bad, except for Tuesdays, I hate Tuesdays.

Let’s see how the week ends. I hope it will be a good one.

Rock on good people!

Weird

Weird for lack of a better word is Awesome! Believe it friends.

Caitlyn

I don’t pretend to be an expert on the subject of transgender issues but when Caitlyn Jenner was introduced to the world yesterday it made a huge splash everywhere. As a fellow human being I support Jenner’s journey because we all have journey’s we are taking to discover who we are. Some folks go through a more radical exploration of who they are and it takes courage to embrace it and to be who they were meant to be. She is beautiful and alive, that is a good thing.

As a person of faith I come from a community that doesn’t always understand issues of gender and sexuality outside of “traditional” norms. One thing we are missing is that Jenner and other folks in the LGBTQ community are God’s children too and they need to be treated as such for who they are. I am a believer that God has a purpose for their lives too and perhaps its one that isn’t easily understood yet. Affirming people for who they are takes courage, changing them is not within anyone’s job description. We all have to work out our place in eternity and in the universe with some fear and trembling. Life is scary if you ask me.

So I salute Ms. Jenner and others who want to be who they are inside. To the boy in the small town who is playing with dolls instead of dirt hang in there young man, life will be better. And to the young girl playing with tools instead wearing a tutu its all good life will be better. Those are the people who need the example of Caitlyn.

May we all have grace and peace today. May we all have courage to tell our story with the world.
