There Is Power In Music

A song, a lyric, a stanza can speak louder than a protest. Anthems and rhythm can resonate in such a way to move people to action. Sometimes a tune can change the world. We have music in our lives that speak to us in an intimate and profound way. You can say a lot in the notes and words that stick with you and come up from memory. We all need music to say what we can’t say on our own.

Music can be subversive, confrontational, inspirational, transformative and soul-stirring. Music can sound the call to war or it can rally people for peace. There is power in a song. The thing about music is that its timeless and generational at the same time. You hear your heart when you hear people singing from their hearts. It can be nonsense to one person but incredibly meaningful to another.

So whether its a record, a CD, an 8-Track a cassette, on your personal music player or live in person or from an instrument you play you are powerful.

Wayback Wednesday – Public Enemy – Fight The Power

The spirit and raw power of their lyrics make this a classic. It also has a timeless message. Public Enemy remains one of the genre’s best groups.

I Wonder About Peace

I wonder when there will be a time where we love our neighbor as ourselves and stop listening to those who give that commandment lip service. Too many believers are listening to politicians and pundits who espouse paranoia and hate. I think its time to turn weapons into plowshares, to end constant war to live in peace. We should should think of arms of love instead of arms of destruction.

I posted this a year ago on Facebook. It still holds truth today.

Rambling About Originality And My Blog

I make every effort to make my blog as original as possible using my own thoughts and words to express who I am and to chronicle and curate the things I am interested in. With that said I do “borrow” from sources when my own words aren’t as good as the original. I do give credit where credit is due though. Occasionally I will re-blog a post from a fellow blogger if it fits the overall narrative of my blog.

I get a lot of material for my blog from Wikipedia, YouTube, Google, Websites that features quotes and saying from others, etc. There are images that help tell my story that come from various sources which are copyrights of the holders and creators of their work. My blog is a non-commercial work and I have no intention of monetizing it.

I am influenced and inspired by other bloggers and the culture and attitudes of the moment. Sometimes that influence rubs off and you end up copying someone without realizing it. However there are some who just seem to take someone else’s work and make it their own, which is wrong.

Our world is a mix of open source and copyrighted works so we have to be careful to do the right thing and credit sources as a best practice.

What is your experience with originality and blogging?

As always I encourage you to be original, be yourself, make your blog unique. Keep on blogging.

Tunes Tuesday – Living Colour – Cult of Personality

This song from 1988 (the year I graduated from High School) still resonates with me because of its message and ferocity. The group knows how to tell a story about people who have become a cult of personality.

Post Something New Today

Make today you post something new. Share what’s going on in your world. Maybe post a poem or picture you think is cool. A blog is a living thing you know. Make your post it simple and fun. Keep on blogging.
