Rambling About Tennessee and The Good Book

holy-bibleThere is a bill waiting to be signed by the governor in the state of Tennessee making The Bible the official state book. You would think I would be for this being a follower of Christ but I am not. This is just plain wrong. Using the Holy Texts of one faith tradition as a cheap way to get political points from ones base of supporters is prejudiced and is borderline theocratic. We live in a country made up of people from all faiths, creeds and culture. To elevate just one faith’s holy book is short sighted and does not speak to being good neighbors. The whole thing is about pandering and posturing and picking up political points with ones constituents. My country is founded in part on the notion of a separation of church and state.

Rambling About Not Giving To Candidates

Don’t give to a political candidate in 2016. There are millions of dollars being spent in this campaign and the return on investment isn’t all that good. Just think about all the money being spent in this election cycle that could be put to good use to do the most good. There are alternatives and choices that would benefit people in need. Please consider giving to a college, an orphanage, a place of worship or homeless shelter or shelter for women in crisis. The homeless could use some of that to help get back on their feet as well as a unemployed person.

Maybe the best solution for our problems can lie outside of politics and in direct help to those in need. I think the political machine is too big and perhaps our election cycle is too long and too complicated. Democracy is expensive too. Charity and philanthropy are two ways to impact many people quickly. Think about all this as America goes to the polls.

A Slightly Political Ramble

I am a left of center person who believes America is great when everyone has a seat at the table, people are taken care of and love wins for all. To me freedom is about assuring life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is extended to the least of these. America is only great when everyone can realize equal opportunities. Security is more than a call to arms its knowing that everyone is safe in the knowledge that their future will be bright. Today we should look ahead to new things and we cannot revisit the past that held people back.

I got to see Mrs. Reagan when I was in High School while at a conference in Atlanta. That was a big thrill for me to see her as a teenager. The former FLOTUS was a interesting person who made waves herself as first lady. No matter your political position this is a sad day.

A Politics Free Weekend, Are You With Me?

I am committed to observing a weekend free of political discussion on my blog and social media. This would be start at sun down on Friday. There’s been too much of it this week and a break from it all would be nice. So no talk of elections or candidates or anything else regarding the race for The White House on Saturday or Sunday. If something serious happens then maybe a blurb, but otherwise politics is off the table. Are you with me? Let’s do this.

I’m With Her – Hillary Clinton In 2016

I have been trying to decide who I will support in the presidential election of 2016. Today is the time when we need to move forward and do things to bring all people into the fold. Hillary Clinton I believe is that person. We cannot go backwards as a country only forward. I am with her. I am all in.
