Hi there, my name is Tony Burgess (my friends call me T-Bird) from Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. I am a believer, bleeding heart, idealist, and blogger. I'm married to Laura the Soup Diva and a dog dad to Frankie, Cody, and Mikey. Daily I work for a blood bank recruiting donors. My blog is where I chronicle and curate the sacred, serious, and silly things in my life. I am a member of The Episcopal Church. Thank you for connecting with me. Grace, peace, and love!

Like Minded People, Just Saying

I am coming to a conclusion that I need and crave the company of like-minded people. Defending ones beliefs and opinions constantly is exhausting. Sure its good to have people who challenge you but I am kind of weary of the fear some have these days. It is really hard to be a progressive in a place where some folks are holding on to the old ways in a very aggressive way. I try to be open-minded but sometimes you have to make your stand to advance the cause of the least of these, the less fortunate, the person who is marching to the beat of their own drummer, the LGBTQ person, the people who want access to life, liberty and happiness. Yes I am a liberal and I wear that title proudly. May God bless and keep us all as we each try to figure this thing called life out.

Waffles and Wi-Fi

A portion of the well used hot breakfast station at the Comfort Inn in Douglasville, Georgia

Hotels and motels have been offering free hot breakfasts and free wi-fi to get your business. Many of them rely upon tourism and business travelers to keep their rooms booked. So it only makes sense to offer free waffles and free wi-fi to keep the modern hotel or motel guest happy and coming back. With the advent of room sharing sites such as Airbnb the competition is getting stronger so you have to include extras to keep your customers  happy.

For me its a no-brainer. People wanna stay in places that make you feel cared for and that some essential modern needs are met. Of course price is always a factor in where we end up booking our reservations. Travelers are picky these days and it is an arms race of sorts. Do your research on sites or consult a travel professional who can help you get the best deal. Yes its about waffles and wi-fi but so much more too.

The Thirteenth Doctor – Jodie Whittaker – #DoctorWho

Today it was announced that a woman would play the 13th Doctor on the long-running British TV show “Doctor Who” until now the role has been portrayed by men. Capable men who told the unique story of a Time Lord. You cannot stop progress though. Jodie Whittaker, the first woman cast in the lead of this important show, will assume the role at Christmas time. It’s been a long time coming and it will mean the show will be somewhat different but you know it will also be the same.

Science fiction is about imagining the future and to dream of a better place for us all to exist in the universe. In my mind the future should be gender inclusive, age inclusive, equality minded and based on the idea that it take 100% of the population to get the job done. Sydney Newman created “Doctor Who” with change in mind. Unfortunately some are missing the point of what a Time Lord is and can be. Women are warriors, they are valuable, they are worthy to take the lead.

Lately we have seen women win the day at the box office in roles that are strong and fierce, so there is an audience there. We are in an age where we need women to remind us of what it means to imagine life in Time And Relative Dimensions In Space from a different but equal viewpoint. In the era in which we live now we need women’s role models so that our wives, sisters, daughters and the like will be inspired to dream a very possible dream. Timey Wimey, Wibbly Wobbly.  Time keeps on ticking into the future and that future is female.

Status Update

The trip is over and I am home. This was a fun but short trip. Driving around the Atlanta, Georgia area is not fun but we made it. I will give you some reflections on the weekend tomorrow. I hope you are all well!

Support Local Food On The Road

When you are on vacation support local restaurants when you can. There are great places to eat in many vacation locations and you get a great deal too. Get on Yelp or Google and you can find some great places. There might be some good deals on Groupon too. The one thing about eating local you can experience something new and you contribute to the local economy. Eat well, eat local.

Status Update

I am on vacation as of now, well actually 4:30 yesterday when I left work. It will be nice to get away. Of course I will be blogging along the way. I hope your day is going well.
