Something About Life, Liberty, Happiness

“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” is a well-known phrase in the United States Declaration of Independence. This is also something that I feel should be extended to every human being around the world.

No matter who we are or where we come from everyone should have the right to a life of their choosing, the liberty to work for it and the freedom to pursue Happiness. One thing I would say is that no human being should prevent another from being able to be who they want as long as its legal, ethical and does not impact others in a negative way. So that means you can’t go streaking naked through a movie theatre yelling fire, fire!

No matter who you are, you should be able to dream big, achieve big and to do good things that can make a difference for your friends and neighbors. America is great when life, liberty and happiness are accessible to everyone no matter creed, orientation, race or ethnicity. It’s my hope no matter where you live in the world you have the opportunities to be who you choose to be in the place where you are now.

Be happy and make the world a better place by being yourself and living well.

Something About A Blog Break

I didn’t post yesterday and It’s cool my blog gets views and visits. Maybe a break every now and then is good for folks to catch up. I am a prolific poster and some days I post 4-6 posts a day. Perhaps that is too much or should it matter to the reader. Interesting things to ponder about best practices for a blogger so that the reader isn’t overwhelmed.

Something About Stars

This morning while walking the dog I looked up and saw the stars in the sky shining brightly. The big dipper, the little dipper and other constellations were still visible in the dawn sky. Somehow this morning it put some things in perspective. Once you get out of Earth’s atmosphere things seem a little less complicated.

The drama of the planet seems to disappear. It’s just you and the celestial heaven that is all around you. Maybe we need to look to the stars of creation to reset and renew our soul. Yeah stargazing can help you think about things in a new way or at least remind you things aren’t as bad as they might seem.

Wherever you are, look up to find yourself again.

Something About The Way Things Are

I don’t things are horrible or bad in general right now. Some folks are genuinely suffering because of a lack of work or perhaps poor health. Perhaps where they live has seen a down turn. But for the vast majority of us we are doing OK. Could we be doing better, sure but I think being grateful to our creator for what we have is a good thing. People in prior generations had love, family, community and modest possessions that were all they needed.

I look at what I have and I realize I am doing alright. The notion of making a country great doesn’t begin with economic and military advantage, no it begins with love, kindness and harmony. If you are reading this you are doing better than many but being great means sharing with others what you have. Good people don’t buy into negative rhetoric, buy into a vision of a good present and a bright future.

We are indeed better and stronger when everyone is taken care of. It’s a matter of being greater together.

Something About Women

images-2It’s not up to me as a middle-aged man to tell any woman what to do or what she can or cannot be. Women make up roughly half the population of the world and therefore they should have control over themselves. Really its not up to any man to tell a woman what to do with their bodies because it does not belong to them in the first place. I think women deserve to have control over over every part of their lives including making the best choices based upon their own individual beliefs. That is what freedom is truly about right?

For too long women have been subjected to inequality, sexism, lower pay and reproductive laws that do not have the same impact on men. It is the 21st century and we should be doing better for women. I am thinking in a world that has given us Margaret Thatcher, Theresa May, Indira Ghandi, Madeline Albright, Oprah Winfrey, Benazir Bhutto, Queen Elizabeth II, Beyonce, Angela Merkel, Sheryl Sandberg, Mother Teresa and so many more women who have led the world and made it a better place that they should have more respect than they do. Women can build empires and families and so much more. Don’t ask for permission women, do your own thing.

If it were not for the women in my life I wouldn’t be the same. A strong woman is a powerful force that can shape the future and impact the present. It’s time for one to lead a good nation into the future. That is also something that is to be determined.

Something About Relevance

Being relevant is more important than being trendy. I think that relevance is a long-term solution to being timely and timeless. Being relevant means that you are working hard to keep up with the world around you. It also requires an open mind and loving heart. At least that’s what I think. What do you think?

Something About Service

It’s my experience that if you want to get anything done with the help of someone else kindness and understanding go a long way in that effort. You also must realize that you are not the most important person to be helped in any given day. Sometimes you have to wait in line like everyone else. When you have to solve a problem and the only way to create a solution it means being humble and contrite when needed. From my experience you have to be patient because it might take some time to get it done. You also have to know that you are not always going to get your way. Companies have rules and policies in place that protect them in their relationships with their customers.  Sometimes there is a resolution that will be fair for both parties involved but realize that you might not like the outcome of your situation.

Having worked in customer service in my life the best people to work with are ones who are helpful themselves. You have to be bought into the process too. I think raising your voice and behaving poorly won’t get you too far, it just makes you look like a fool. Service with a smile means we all need to smile. Remember your problem isn’t always the end of the world.
