Blogging For Bucks

blog-advertisingMany bloggers make a living with their blogs. Making money off ones blog is a great way to bring in extra dollars and to get paid to do what you love. If you are monetizing site please be smart about how your ads display. I worked for a newspaper in their classified advertising department and I understand about advertising being the life blood of many sites. Most blogs need a lot of ads to make money after expenses. Layout of your site and template selection is important. The important question is, what do you do to get all your sponsors on your site?

Some ads are well placed and do not interfere with the content of the site which is why you go to a site in the first place. However some blogs make you wade through a maze of ads to get to the good stuff, don’t do that. User experience is important. Never use a pop-up ad or a banner ad because those are so 2000. Ads that overlay on ones content can be nuisance too. Sidebar ads or perhaps one smallish ad at the top would work best.

Some computers have a hard time with lots of ads especially animated ones and video embedded. There is also connectivity and speed issues too. Users in some areas have a bandwidth cap so keeping that in mind is a best practice.

I don’t know everything about web advertising however I do know about using a site and as a end user its important to get to the content quickly and get on with the other things I need to do. There are some ads that inform me of new things I didn’t know about. Other ads just lead to other sites with more ads and that isn’t fun.

(This post was an exercise for me to write something different. Your feedback is appreciated.)

Inspired Ideas And The Blogger

There’s nothing new under the Sun. Ideas come from many sources and we are influenced and inspired in many ways. We all “borrow” from other bloggers and most of the time its a very innocent thing while other people just brazenly lift a post from another blogger and pass that work off as their own. Originality is a wonderful thing but its also hard to maintain. Inspiration is a wonderful thing but giving credit where credit is due is important. Sometimes “imitation is the greatest form of flattery” or something like that.

Back To The Future, Twenty Fourteen Theme #wordpressdotcom #wordpress

I change my themes more than some folks change their minds. Since I am using Instagram pictures on my blog again I found they display better across various platforms using the Twenty Fourteen theme. The widgets are in the same places you might have seen before. I like how much content you can display using this theme too. Thanks for putting up with the changes and remaining connected. Keep on blogging good people.

Thank You, You Know Who You Are.

There are lots of people who have been there for me through the years. I don’t think I say thank you enough to them. Without their generosity and care my life would be very different. We all need to be extravagant with our thanks and gratitude to everyone who makes our lives better. Our lives are not meant to be spent on an island so we have to be in this life together. I can’t list everyone I need to thank, that would be a really big blog post but I just want to say thank you everyone, you know who you are. Once again, thanks!

Leadership And Listening

20160628_163742

This sign is posted in one of the elevators at my work. Listening is an important part of leading people. You have to be able to take information from those who you work with, process it and then take action based upon their experiences. At work I am a team leader and I make it a rule to listen to others and to create solutions based upon what they have to say. Buy-in from those who work with and for you is important.
