Tired Of Arguing Online

In the tit-for-tat world that is social media these days arguing can be exhausting. There is an old Internet saying “don’t read the comments” and its true. On Facebook you can see where there is so much pain and suffering in the feedback of people who are wanting to speak louder to get their point of view across. Back in the good old days there were debate classes that taught the fine craft of point and counterpoint. In debate you had to do your research to make your case. There was a point to debate and it was an orderly, civilized discussion of a subject.

Fighting the good fight is a noble thing but when you think about it that can just wear you out. Politics has made things so bad that it has ended friendships and caused division. I get tired of the arguing but you have to do something or say something when you see injustice going on. But man things can get tiresome online.

It is very important to know who you are. To make decisions. To show who you are. – Malala Yousafzai

#Twitter Working On Becoming A Safer Place

Kudos to Twitter for taking steps to prevent abusive behavior and to keep its users safe. A safe online experience benefits us all. I’m hoping these actions will help everyone who uses Twitter as a prime tool for connecting socially.

Picking One’s Battles Online

I have been on the Internet for a very long time and I have commented on many, many posts. However you have to pick your battles. Not everyone on the web will agree 100% and there is real temptation to comment on something you don’t agree with but in this day and age but you do so at your own peril. Facebook is a minefield of articles and posts that can provoke one into an argument that can get nasty if you let it.

Fighting the good fight is a noble thing and its necessary at times. Ask yourself this, do you want to chime in on something where everyone else will come down on you for your opposing opinion. This is a lesson I have learned the hard way.

People who are always looking for a fight I think do so for attention or perhaps to poke a stick at those who they want to challenge. I am guilty of that but I am trying to get better at it. Words can heal and damage with the same force and we all have a choice to make on what we want to do with our words in the world.

Some things are worth the pain of provocation of a reply but others aren’t worth the keystrokes or the heartache.

Changing Tone

I am going to do my best to avoid political posts for awhile. A change in the tone of my blog would be good for me and for you my readers and followers. Everyone needs to change the tone of the conversation at some point. Now is a time to live in the moment.

There is still much to do to keep those in leadership in check and to preserve the rights of every citizen to have access to life, liberty and happiness.

So, now let’s change the conversation.

Welcome To Nerd Corner 2.0, A Place To Be Nerdy

20161105_174159

This is my little set up in our office where I do nerdy, geeky and sometimes dorky things. There is a Dell Optiplex desktop dual booting Xubuntu and Windows 7. A Lenovo Tablet with bluetooth keyboard. Add my Android smart phone to the mix and I can run 3 screens at once. Right next to me is a Cannon wireless printer/scanner. This entire setup is powered by EPB Fiber which is my local Internet provider where I have 100mbps down and upload speed with access to 1 gig if I pay a little more.

I can’t forget I have a Toshiba Chromebook that I use mostly when I am on the couch. That is when I want Nerd Corner anywhere and everywhere. Pretty much everything I run is Open Source so that amps up the geek factor quite a bit.

Nerd Corner 2.0 allows me the tools I need to be creative and to connect. It is here where I can blog, write, listen to podcasts or music among many other things. We all need a place like this to express themselves and let their freak flag fly.
