Sunday Reflection: Love Over Politics

My friends my butt was kicked spiritually today. At church, this morning my priest admonished/encouraged our congregation to put brother/sisterhood above politics. Everyone was called out in his homily/sermon. I know he is right that my love for my brothers and sisters in humanity is more important than politics. That is truth.

Also, truth is that my faith informs my politics as to what makes me, me. Right now, too many people are suffering and there is so much injustice that you cannot ignore it. Righteousness sometimes means disagreeing with your brothers and sisters in a profound way.

It is my hope that I can learn to be more loving and caring for those who disagree with my personal brand of theology and politics. When it comes to the ones you love the most you must make that personal decision how you will react to what they have to say as it comes to their own politics and philosophy.

I suppose this is what reconciliation is about. That word is about action and challenging work. It’s what the world needs more of these days. Good luck to all of us in all that.

What my priest said is something that I hope to apply to my life. However, it won’t be easy. We are human, tribal, and very stubborn. Let’s see how it all goes.

Sunday Reflection: Giving Yourself A Break – Love Generously

Everyone makes mistakes. No one is perfect. I am usually harder on myself than others. Giving yourself space to be imperfect and human is one of the best things we can do for ourselves. Personally I have learned this the hard way. A lifetime of being a people pleaser and making errors along the way has made me take a step back and to realize I can’t please everyone and hope that they will forgive me and more importantly I won’t lose sleep over it all. It is important to show grace to everyone.

Another thought for this Sunday is to let love be real. Love one another. Be vigorous in serving ones higher power. Celebrate hope and give hospitality to strangers. That doesn’t mean always inviting them into your house but extending care to those who are in need. There are many things we can do to do good things and to kick bad stuff to the curb. Avoid revenge. People who do you wrong will have to face the music someday. Treat your enemies as you would wish to be treated and maybe they won’t be enemies much longer.

May you all find peace this week. I am hoping for the best for all of us. Grace, peace and love you crazy people.

Quote Of The Day

I have found that it is the small everyday deed of ordinary folks that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness and love.

Faith Comes With Joy and Pain

Life is about joy and pain even when you have faith in a higher power. Easy times come with difficult times. Faith helps you deal with it all. I am sure other things can too like community and family. I can say that my faith has helped me be a better person and to love more. Everyone has something that can get them through this very tough thing called living in reality.
