Today is election day in Tennessee where local and state races are on the ballot. Voting is a right and a duty that I take seriously.
Here in Hamilton County, Tennessee we are electing a new mayor, district attorney and sheriff. Let’s hope for the best that there will be fair minded people who will serve and lead our community.
I think it’s cool to share your opinions online. What is not cool is to be toxic or destructive. There’s too much of that going on these days. A good critique is acceptable. Being personal and tearing down someone who doesn’t deserve it is not.
People who are in the limelight for horrible things need to be held accountable. We all must be mindful to be kind and remember someone works hard on the things they care a lot about, no need in harming them.
Sometimes the happy little party in your head needs to break out into the crazy world you live in. Everyone should enjoy that stuff between your ears sometimes. Enjoy the cerebral celebration.
Hello friend it’s August and practically the Summer is beginning to wind down as folks head back to school and the like. Here on the first day of the month where I live much needed rain fell. I hope it cools things down a bit.
Let’s see what it has in store for us. Hopefully good stuff. Have a great day good people.
Everyone has their own views and opinions. I know I do. Understanding those differences comes from having conversations and establishing dialogue. In every family, there will be disagreements even among people who you love. I am a very black or white sort of person.
I do know I need to be more grayscale because that is where others are. You can appreciate others in the gray but it’s harder when it’s an either-or situation. Everything from politics to religion to sports to science fiction is deeply personal and moderating that passion can be good for everyone.
I need to work on this stuff. Life could be better if I do. Work requires being uncomfortable and a little conflict. Let’s see what happens.
This is something I must remember and strive for. It won’t be easy.
Nichelle Nichols who played the iconic role of Uhura in the original Star Trek series passed away at age 89. She was a trailblazer on TV and in life by her working with NASA to recruit people of color and women to go into the Astronaut program. I believe she was one of the most important people on TV during the time of the original Trek series. Without her, science fiction wouldn’t be as diverse as it is today.
Thank you for sending your hailing calls to a world that needed them, Nichelle. Well done. Rest in power.
