The New and Improved tonyburgess1969.net

Announcing my new and improved blog look for 2018. I have taken the four-year-old Twenty Fourteen and have tweaked the CSS to make it look very blue which is very me. I am a big fan of white font on dark backgrounds because I think its much easier to read and it gives it a certain style.

Twenty fourteen allows me to pull in my blogging community in a very effective way too because I am looking at making my blog the central social network for me in the coming year. Not only is my blog where I express myself its also a connection hub too for you the followers.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Six Word Story

Nerds have way more fun y’all.

My Place In My Faith

I have been thinking about my place in the story of Jesus and its one of wanting to share his love in an inclusive and open way. The tradition of Christ being a big tent guy is one that I fully embrace. No one should be excluded from the opportunity to be loved and to love. There is too much gate keeping, wall building, exclusion of those who are not like us in this world today.

Yes, we live in very troubled times and we are all in need of comfort and grace so without doubt we need to keep God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit from being boxed in by our own fears and issues. It is my belief that without a God of inclusion, love, compassion and yes even occasional sternness I don’t know if this would want to be a part of his community.

My fear is too many people are being shut out and told that because they are this or that there is no room at the Inn for them. We need peace, freedom from conflict and freedom of being who we are and how God created us people of many colors and many orientations. I am thankful for The Episcopal Church and before that the United Methodist Church for informing me its good to be a believer who is open to new things and to question when needed.

Thanks be to God.

Towing and Recovery, There When You Need It

A Classic Tow Truck from The Towing & Recovery Hall of Fame & Museum, Chattanooga, TN

Tonight on the way home from dinner I came off a curb and my car’s muffler fell off its mounts. I couldn’t go any further so I had to call my insurance company to have them send a tow truck. This really nice guy that was dispatched to help me, got there assessed the problem and fixed my car on the spot. His experience and knowledge made the difference. This meant I didn’t have to go to a garage where they might have charged me to fix the problem.

My friends, you see towing and recovery trucks all over. Where there are cars there are people to help you out of a jam in case of an accident or doing something stupid like I did. These men and women are dedicated to their profession and they do it in sometimes dangerous conditions. Whenever you come across a tow truck operator thank them for what they do to keep people safe and to keep traffic flowing.

Thank you tow truck operators for all you do.

A Ramble About Critics

Critics are everywhere. We all have an opinion but some share it loudly and perpetually they hate everything. TV, Music, Stage, Movies, Art, Food all have people who think they know what is good and you know they don’t know everything. People who find faults in everything seem to have an agenda. Maybe critics should realize how hard people work on something and hope its well received by everyone. Perhaps they think they can do something better. Critics can influence but their views don’t always mean something is of quality or not. Ultimately the greatest critic can be how well something does commercially and if the public likes it or not. Money can change everyone’s mind.
