Trying A New Operating System, Fedora KDE Plasma

I have been tinkering again, and this time I have been experimenting with the Fedora Linux operating system.

Fedora Linux is a Linux distribution developed by the Fedora Project. It was originally developed in 2003 as a continuation of the Red Hat Linux project.

There are different flavors of Fedora and I have been testing the KDE Plasma variant and I like it very much. I am a long-time user and I have been able to customize it to my liking and my workflow as an enthusiast who knows enough to be dangerous. I am using it on my desktop and laptop, so I am all-in.

So far, it’s worked well for me. I look forward to using it more and adjusting to how different it is from the Debian/Ubuntu distributions I have been using since I switched to Linux from Windows many years ago. This looks like a promising start to doing something new in Nerd Corner.

Sometimes An Upgrade Isn’t A Upgrade, Just Saying

636042899128040346992097692_Camera-Technology-to-Assist-Your-Property-Inspection-AppI am a Linux user and every few months there is a release of updated operating systems with loads of new things and bug fixes. Like the geek I am I check them out to see how they run and function. I have been testing three versions of the Ubuntu OS and I realize that staying put with what I am running which is Ubuntu Mate 16.04 is what’s best. iPhone users know what I am talking about when a new phone is on the market yearly it seems. Keeping up with technology let alone the Joneses is hard enough.

So sometimes an upgrade isn’t worth the hassle doing something new just because of some shiny new features that might cost one time and money. There must be a really good reason to need to switch to something new/different. So, In my thinking there is nothing wrong with staying put and making the best of what you already have.

I won’t lie I would love the new Google Pixel phone but I gotta pay the one I have off first which will come in November 2018.

So for the time being lets stick and stay. Keep things simpler that way.

Verizon Ends Yahoo Independence With $4.83 Billion Deal – Bloomberg

1200x-1

Verizon Communications Inc. agreed to buy Yahoo! Inc.’s web assets for $4.83 billion, ending the company’s two-decade run as an independent business that took it from Stanford University startup at the dawn of the internet age to also-ran behind nimbler online rivals such as Google and Facebook Inc. Verizon Ends Yahoo Independence With $4.83 Billion Deal – Bloomberg

I have used Yahoo off and on over the past 20 years of being on the World Wide Web. Yahoo Mail was the thing back in the day and almost everyone had an address.

Hearing the news of the sale to Verizon saddens me a little because this was a once mighty company who made the Internet what it is today and they sold just to survive. Verizon earlier bought AOL which is another old tech company everyone used. Yahoo didn’t innovate fast enough and they weren’t ready for the mobile revolution we see today. I have a history with Tumblr which was bought by Yahoo awhile back and it will be interesting to see how this plays out there. I think Verizon will do some good things but I don’t expect Yahoo to remain what it is today or what it was yesterday.
