Technology Frustration, A First World Problem

With all the tech we have in our lives it can generate a level of frustration when your devices doesn’t work like its supposed to. Simple things such as maintenance can be a major ordeal. I was replacing printer ink cartridges today and now my printer won’t work. I have gone online to see what could be happening but nothing I have found is helping me. This first world problem is very real. All I want to do is to print stuff. Arrrg!

Yet Another Desktop Linux Setup – Linux Lite 3.2 @linuxlite #linux

A screenshot of my Linux Lite 3.2 Desktop

I have changed Linux desktop OS again. This time it’s a keeper (yeah, I have said that before) but it’s different, believe me.

This is a screenshot of Linux Lite 3.2 which is based upon Ubuntu 16.04. To me doing something that is not the “normal” is a way of life and computing is one of those things. You would be surprised what is running some sort of Linux, UNIX or some other open source software in your house. To me running it on the desktop allows my older PC to keep running and to be like new again.

Linux Lite does that in so many ways because its lighter on system resources and provides a wide range of tools and applications to do everything from blogging, photo organizing, editing, creating documents, listening to music, watching videos and so much more and there are free updates every so often. I am very pleased with how this is working. There will be a lot of content coming from this setup. You can even download the desktop version of WordPress and use it on Linux.

Welcome To Nerd Corner 2.0, A Place To Be Nerdy

20161105_174159

This is my little set up in our office where I do nerdy, geeky and sometimes dorky things. There is a Dell Optiplex desktop dual booting Xubuntu and Windows 7. A Lenovo Tablet with bluetooth keyboard. Add my Android smart phone to the mix and I can run 3 screens at once. Right next to me is a Cannon wireless printer/scanner. This entire setup is powered by EPB Fiber which is my local Internet provider where I have 100mbps down and upload speed with access to 1 gig if I pay a little more.

I can’t forget I have a Toshiba Chromebook that I use mostly when I am on the couch. That is when I want Nerd Corner anywhere and everywhere. Pretty much everything I run is Open Source so that amps up the geek factor quite a bit.

Nerd Corner 2.0 allows me the tools I need to be creative and to connect. It is here where I can blog, write, listen to podcasts or music among many other things. We all need a place like this to express themselves and let their freak flag fly.

The Big Internet Brands Of The ’90s — Where Are They Now? : All Tech Considered : NPR

What happened to all those other big brands that dominated the early Internet experience? Here’s a nerdy remembrance of a few of them.

I first got online back in 1995 after I bought a computer that could get on the World Wide Web. I had other computers that accessed Prodigy and some Bulletin Board Systems. The 1990’s were kind of the beginnings of the commercial Internet. I do miss those days but I kind of like the blogging and social media of the here and now. NPR’s report gives us a historical look back to the early Web.
