Monday is Memorial Day in the USA where those who served and sacrificed everything in the military are remembered and honored. A solemn and serious time of reflection and honor to those who are no longer with us because they died for their nation.
It is my hope that those who have served and sacrificed over the past few years have done so for all Americans. Freedom and liberty are two words used a lot in the USA and it doesn’t seem everyone has access to those ideals that many people hold fast to their heart and soul.
Yes, I am a liberal but I respect those who chose to wear the uniform of this nation. Not everyone can or will make that choice and its an individual decision. Also not everyone is suited for this type of service. For those who serve who are also a part of the LGBTQ community thank you for being on the wall, on the front lines and doing so even though many in this country hates you just for being who you were born to be.
Let’s remember those who gave all but strive to make that sacrifice worth it for everyone. It’s the American way isn’t it?
Many of us are in the grips of some really cold weather. The northern USA and southern Canada especially. May this picture remind you of warmer days and make you think warm thoughts. Stay safe everyone who are suffering sub-zero conditions right now.
Most of America will be going back to standard time tomorrow. That means they will set their clocks back one hour before going to bed tonight and getting an extra hour of sleep. Don’t forget my friends to do this before turning in for the night. While you are at it check your smoke alarm batteries and other devices too.
Supporting Transgender people in the United States and other places where their right to exist is threatened.
In November there will be a mid-term election in the United States where state and federal elected offices will be decided. WordPress has posted a link on the reader dashboard to help those who haven’t registered to vote as of yet.
My friends this election coming up is important and if you are in the United States and have not registered to vote do so now. There is a lot at stake.

Today in the USA we honor our presidents. Originally it was two separate holidays to honor Washington and Lincoln. A few years ago it expanded to honor them all.
When I was a kid school started back after Labor Day in the USA because the weather was just a little cooler. These days some kids around the country start back before August. Classes are starting back earlier and earlier these days for various reasons. The challenges our teachers and students face are tougher and they have to be smarter. Our world has changed and the lessons they need to learn are important to their success.
Around the world kids start at different times. For some of my followers their kids are now enjoying Summer break.
Every student, every teacher, every parent has a lot riding on our schools and they need our support. New teachers are coming in as old teachers are retiring and the standards that need to be met are higher. Elementary, middle and high schools along with colleges need to be safe and secure places of learning too. As school starts back lets keep everyone involved in our thoughts and prayers. They need it now, more than ever.
This is a classic commercial from the office supply chain Staples. For parent’s this is a great time of year because the kids are returning to the classroom.
On this the 241st birthday of The United States of America I am a firm believer that every American (and everyone around the world) should have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as prescribed by the Declaration of Independence which was bravely signed by some very wise men during the early days of this nation.
I think if you are believer, non-believer, LGBTQ, immigrant, refugee, male, female, everyone should be afforded the rights to be who you were created to be. Our racial and ethnic diversity should be celebrated too. I also think that globally people should have the freedom to be, to be. There are too many people trying to make decisions about how people are to live and that’s not right.
In America people from all places on Earth have come to this place to find a new home, new opportunities and shelter from oppression. It is my hope they will never find America a new place where because of who they are they are not welcome.
It has been said that America is an experiment and it is still true. However let’s hope the results of this experiment result in a place where people are indeed free to be. May the world take note and may places where people aren’t free be encouraged to seek out a new path where they too have the rights to life in abundance, liberty to be who they are and happiness where they can have joyful participation in all of what life has for them.
