Six Word Story

Have we forgotten we are fragile.

Commentary On Racism

In light of the senseless deaths of African American people at the hands of law enforcement officers, there should be greater background checks on recruits as well as mental fitness screenings. If a police officer is racist and mentally unfit that makes things worse and everyone is less safe. Racism is problem enough but adding people who are licensed to carry a firearm and are trained to subdue a human being is like adding gasoline to a fire. The stress of the job can bring out the worst in people and no one is safe when that happens.

Also living in fear of one another is hurting our society in so many ways. God said fear not and to love one another. The church should play a role in emphasizing that more than they do. My friends a reckoning is coming, and it might not be good for all of us.

The Thing About: Stories

We all have a story to tell. Our lives are happening in real time and that is a tale indeed worth sharing. I am thinking about those who’s lives have been impacted by life-changing events as of late. People have altered their existence because of the pandemic where their routines and usual things have been changed.

Some have lost their lives in one way or another. Their story must be told and their memory must live on. It’s the way to keep those people alive.

Our witness to the events of the day is what will be written in history books. Our story is taking place among the larger events of our time. Our reaction to those events is also a part of that narrative.

Just think about those who have witnessed the biggest events in history. All we have is their account of what happened. As a believer I have a faith story which is happening at the same time as my life story and my life is happening at the same time as others around me. It’s interesting how when you change your focus you can see all the stuff going on around you and how we react is a story in and of itself.

Technology has given us amazing ways to tell our stories. From blogging, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, Tik Tok and of course self-publishing books and the like we have the opportunity to chronicle our lives and share what we hope will be something that will inspire and influence others.

My friends, tell your story. Show the world who you are, where you have been and where you hope to go.

The Future Is Now With The Youth Of Today

Like many in the faith, community worship has been done online in this time of Covid-19. My church’s service this morning which was recorded and streamed on YouTube featured our high school seniors who are graduating and going on to their next chapter in life, college. These seniors talked about their life experiences as it relates to their faith. We also had other kids who read scripture and prayers who will have their own recognitions in the future.

Last night I heard former U.S. President Barack Obama speak and he charged the youth of today to claim their leadership role and to do their best in the process. His speech was not about him but the students who have been through a lot in their lives.

Just think about it. These young people have seen and experienced events like 9/11, natural disasters, war, and now Coronavirus. To have their proms and graduation ceremonies canceled isn’t fair but they have taken it in stride. Through their lives, they have been trained for this moment in time. It is safe to say they will face this challenge with resolve and perhaps it’s preparing even further for the road ahead.

I choose to believe that my higher power (I call him/her God) is with each of us in these days we are in. Maybe those young adults who are graduating can teach us all a thing or two. Perhaps we just need to follow their lead. Being teachable and flexible will make life better for all. The future is in the next minute and its time to realize that our young are going to make things happen.

Six Word Story

Write some posts this weekend friends.

Above The Clouds

Being above the clouds can help take your mind off all the troubles down below. Clouds can be fluffy and pretty but some have as much trouble in them as what your life is on the ground. Having your head in the cloud is a nice, temporary retreat from the woes of life but you can’t stay there. Sometimes we wish we could store all our problems in the cloud. Whatever has you wishing for the clouds is only temporary. It too shall pass like clouds.

In some ways, climbing in the clouds is comforting. You can no longer see how high off the ground you are.
