Rambling About Paying Attention

I am distracted, we are all perhaps distracted about something in our lives. So much is going on in my head that I am not listening well. Being distracted impacts my relationships with important people in my life. I think we could all agree that we are over stimulated with all sorts of things coming at us. Even when we aren’t using our electronic devices we still find ourselves distracted. Life seems to be more complex than in years past and I am not sure it will get better.

Too many of us are so burdened that we aren’t paying attention to the people that really matter in life. Maybe I need to cut a couple things out or perhaps I need to alter my behavior and learn to prioritize what I am doing in any given moment. I am wondering about how getting older makes it easier to be distracted or not? My friends what is your experience with paying attention, is it harder for you as time goes on, what do you do to focus on the main things in life.

No, There is Power In That Small Word

No, is a complete sentence. It’s also a powerful word I find difficult to say. No is a small word with big impact. It can mean letting someone down. No means no but it also means having control in your life. No can be an habitual thing where you aren’t willing to do anything for anyone. As a people pleaser I find it hard to say no because I am wanting to do everything for everyone. Saying no to anyone is not always in my nature. In the world of sales there is a unique challenge to turn a no into a yes. That requires technique and communication and getting people to talk themselves into something they have said no to previously. Much of this is about conflict resolution and taking people seriously. Sometimes it’s just about your preferences and doing what you want to do.

Six Word Story

I can be a jerk sometimes.

Throwback Thursday: 60 Years of Mount Vernon Restaurant

Tonight we dined out at Mount Vernon Restaurant, a fixture in the Chattanooga food scene for 60 years. I had the classic Mount Vernon cutlet which resembles chicken parmesan but made with pork. I paired it with some macaroni and cheese. For desert I enjoyed some amaretto pie which is delicious. It’s nice to take a culinary trip back in time. The prices were from the 1970’s which were good too.

It’s October 15, 2015 and the Egg Nog is on the shelves at the nearby convenience store. It’s not even Halloween yet. Too early for this. #christmascreep #christmas
