Thank you for following this blog and my socials. Connecting is fun. Blogging is fun.

Nerd Corner Endorses – All Open Source

I wanted to share with you the operating system and apps that powers Nerd Corner. I use them on my desktop and laptop computers. They are vital to me in my creative endeavors. I use them daily to make connections with my family, friends and this blogging community. Check them out and give them a spin.

Zorin OS 18

I love Linux and my official operating system is Zorin OS, which is in its 18th version. It powers both my desktop and laptop. This open source software looks and feels like Microsoft Windows, and many use it because of that reason. You don’t have to put up with all the bloat and ads of Windows 10/11. It comes with loads of productivity and entertainment software already installed and has a library of thousands of apps I can download to make it my own.

Mozilla Firefox

Mozilla Firefox is my long-time favorite browser because it is open source, secure and offers enough features that don’t get in the way of getting stuff done. I use Firefox for browsing the web, posting blogs, watching YouTube videos, e-commerce, and connecting to others on social media among other fun things. There is also a mobile app that I use daily.

Thunderbird Email

Thunderbird is my go-to email app. You can send and receive email from various places like Gmail, Yahoo and the like. It is highly customizable so you can make it work for you. It also comes with a built-in calendar you can sync to your online calendar. Not only that, but it’s also secure.

In disclosure, I have made a very small donation to the organizations that maintain and distribute these programs. If you use them, it makes sense to support them in whatever way you can. Each of them are also non-profit and community supported, which is something I feel good about.

Church On Zoom

Because of the Winter weather threat in the area, my church went on Zoom to have morning prayer. It turned out that the situation was not as serious as it could have been. This was reminiscent of the COVID era when everything was virtual. Thanks to technology, it’s good to have this option when necessary. It keeps some level of routine and connection with the Divine and community. Thanks to Fr. Drew and Deacon Kelly for making this happen this morning.

Something About Current Events

Another person was murdered in Minneapolis today. It’s a place that didn’t ask for the trouble it’s in right now.

A Winter storm is headed to our area. We are hunkering down for the next couple of days.

The United States is a horrible place because of our vile president and his government.

The world seems on fire. So much shit is going on.

Current events are sad, depressing, challenging.

I am feeling it all, and it’s a lot to deal with.

Somehow the Hunger Games movies are offering some comfort.

Lord have mercy.

Finding Out About Me – The Enneagram System

Everyone is different. We are all unique. The things I am interested in has a high nerd factor. Things like religion, professional wrestling, Linux and the media gives me life. However, I find myself alone in those pursuits.

Not everyone is geeked out about the things I find fascinating. With that being said, I enjoy the company of people and I want to have friendships that I can share those interests in.

Lately, I have been exploring more about my personality through the Enneagram. It’s about finding what makes you tick and so much more. I am not going to go into details, but the Enneagram personality tests do make a lot of sense to me. I am a number four (The Individualist). There are other factors that also create an individual personality profile. If you want to know more, do a search and there are loads of resources online.

All I want is to have meaningful friendships with people who get me. I do want the power to be myself without fear. Everyone should want that. I hope this makes sense.

Something About Venezuela

In light of today’s attack on Venezuela, we have to be mindful of the people of that nation and for the rule of international law. I hope for a peaceful resolution can be found that recognizes that nation’s sovereignty. There also needs to be accountability and justice for those who led to this action. I don’t think the military action should have happened without authorization from congress. Checks and balances are there for a reason. Our world is burning too badly and cooler heads must prevail always. The current administration has to do better. I fear worse things are ahead.
