Isaac Asimov’s “Three Laws of Robotics”

In the age of robotics and automation we should be aware of Issac Asimov’s three rules of robotics. Human beings need to be mindful of these rules when building and programming these aware machines. Smart and forward thinking from this noted futurist and writer.

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm

2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

The New and Improved tonyburgess1969.net

Announcing my new and improved blog look for 2018. I have taken the four-year-old Twenty Fourteen and have tweaked the CSS to make it look very blue which is very me. I am a big fan of white font on dark backgrounds because I think its much easier to read and it gives it a certain style.

Twenty fourteen allows me to pull in my blogging community in a very effective way too because I am looking at making my blog the central social network for me in the coming year. Not only is my blog where I express myself its also a connection hub too for you the followers.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Black and White Photo Challenge – Day 2

I have been challenged by a couple of my fellow bloggers to do a black and white photo challenge. Here is day two of the challenge.

I make phone calls for a living and I used a computer based phone system. This headset is something I use daily. Without it my job would be very difficult.

The Cool Thing About Blogging

There are many things that are cool about blogging but I enjoy seeing how you all live your lives and enjoy the things you are passionate about. I think that is what this medium does very well is that we can share things about ourselves, where we live and what drives us. We get to see what the weather is in other parts of the world or a new grandchild being born, a new recipe that has really become a family favorite, what new outfit we are wearing these days. Of course there is the opportunity to share the stuff we are going through and to seek advice when things are not easy and we are struggling. This is the one thing that keeps us connected and are the ties that bind. I find everyday peoples stories and lives more fascinating than those who are famous. Heck we are all famous on the web.

My friends your story is important. Keep on blogging for all the good it can do.

Sometimes An Upgrade Isn’t A Upgrade, Just Saying

636042899128040346992097692_Camera-Technology-to-Assist-Your-Property-Inspection-AppI am a Linux user and every few months there is a release of updated operating systems with loads of new things and bug fixes. Like the geek I am I check them out to see how they run and function. I have been testing three versions of the Ubuntu OS and I realize that staying put with what I am running which is Ubuntu Mate 16.04 is what’s best. iPhone users know what I am talking about when a new phone is on the market yearly it seems. Keeping up with technology let alone the Joneses is hard enough.

So sometimes an upgrade isn’t worth the hassle doing something new just because of some shiny new features that might cost one time and money. There must be a really good reason to need to switch to something new/different. So, In my thinking there is nothing wrong with staying put and making the best of what you already have.

I won’t lie I would love the new Google Pixel phone but I gotta pay the one I have off first which will come in November 2018.

So for the time being lets stick and stay. Keep things simpler that way.

Something About Changing Tech, Changing Times

I have a co-worker who gets frustrated by technology and how fast things are changing. Everyone knows that as soon as one phone is released its just going to get replaced by a newer model a year later. Technology is something that has planned obsolescence as a part of the whole business model.

Market forces cause decision makers to make hard choices in the future of their products. What we want now might not be what we want later. It’s important to be adaptable and fluid in life especially when it comes to devices. Even the very software and hardware that connects us can change rapidly and often times in a surprising way.

Being able to learn new things is vital to keeping us all relevant to what is happening today. Tomorrow is always upon us and we have to be ready because what is cutting edge today could be out of date in a minute or two. As tech changes so does the times because we have gone from a Blockbuster Video world to a Netflix world. Everyone likes things in an instant today. Streaming is everything isn’t it. We even shop differently. Thanks Amazon.com for your click to order and arriving on my doorstep the next day or so.

I think the key thing we have to remember is that the source code for everything is changing and we have to learn to keep up. This sort of change is something I don’t mind I just need to remind myself that I have to keep evolving and adapting as time goes by.
