Something About Comments

Comments can inspire, enlighten, inform. They can also demoralize, hurt and wound. Sometimes a comment can reveal more about your readers than the post reveals about you. We have all made comments that in our head sound innocent but when it’s on a screen it looks like something else. We can use our comments to lift someone up or to tear them down when they don’t need to

The old saying if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all applies but is often not followed. What you say has weight and consequences. Everyone has said dumb things they regret and wish they could take back but it is also hard to put toothpaste back in a tube. Be sure to leave comments but choose words wisely. It’s always something about those comments.

To All The Newbie Bloggers

If you have just started blogging here are 3 quick tips…

  • Don’t over think your blog.
  • Be the star of your own blog.
  • Keep on blogging.

Enjoy the process of posting and have a lot of fun. Oh be yourself too. This is your blog so post whatever you want. Be original. Rock on.

A Note About My Political Posts

It’s no secret I lean left/liberal and I make no apologies for that. One week from today we in the United States will have a new president and that scares the hell out of me. Sometimes you have to speak out about things that deeply concerns you and this is one of those times. You can’t be silent when you see something wrong or threatening. I have too many friends who are scared out of their minds because they are looking at their lives being severely impacted by the desire by some to discriminate and turn back the clock when things were good for them. People on the fringes are in peril. Something has to be done before it’s too late.

If you wish to stop following me I understand. What is happening is too important not to say something to defend the rights of 100% of our population. Too much is at stake. Now is the time to act.

Thank you for your care and the space to express myself. Even when we disagree we can be civil, courteousness.

Mentioned In Good Company

A couple of bloggers recently mentioned my blog in their blogs and I was very honored to be among great company. I have been mentioned by other bloggers too and I thank them for their interest in what I do.

This is what Jason @ Opinionated Man had to say.

Tony Burgess – https://tonyburgess1969.net/

I’ll be very disappointed if Tony isn’t as great of a guy as I think he is. His posts are so unassuming and his humor strikes me in the right way. I’ve enjoyed my connection with this blogger and I would suggest his website to any new WordPress user.

This is what Jess @ Shopgirl Anonymous had to say

Blogger of the Year:Tony Burgess
When I first saw Tony’s blog I was at a loss, his posts were short, and at the time I would have called them status updates more than I would blog posts.   But for over a year I have followed him to work, enjoyed delicious dinners with he and his amazing wife.  I have gone to the movies with him, and enjoyed the sites of (one of my favorite spots in Tennessee) Chattanooga all from the comforts of my couch in my living room.  Tony is active in supporting his followers, and feels more like a friend and less like just another subscription on your blog wall.  He is your break from monotonous poetry and overstated advice columns, he is real, authentic, and a breath of fresh air. He is the guy, that everybody knows his name, you find some exotic new blog that’s way off the beaten path, chances are you will find his comments there too.

One thing about my blog is that I post about the world around me and what is going on in my head. Having come from Tumblr I have taken the concept of smaller, shorter posts here so you can visit, read and get on to the next post of mine or someone else. I want to thank Jess and Jason among others who have appreciated my brand of blogging.

Four things I would advise any blogger to do and none of these things is rocket science or brain surgery.

  • Post frequently – It builds an audience and keeps your skills sharp
  • Be authentic – Be yourself
  • Be the star of their own blog – Your blog is about you first
  • Keep on blogging – Never stop blogging

Back To Life, Back To Reality

Tomorrow the holidays will be over for most folks. Some businesses observe New Years on Monday while others say it’s back to work. All the fun stuff is going away and we are going back into reality and that can suck. I suppose the best way to get back to regular routine is to just do regular routine. Get up, get ready, go to work, get home when your shift is done. The holidays haven’t had the same flair this year for some reason. Perhaps its the world situation that has creeped in with how 2016 was such a horrible year.

I have a 3-day weekend so I won’t be going back to work until Tuesday. Then I am taking Friday off because I need a bit of a break after a very tough late November through December at work.

So as real life begins to reestablish itself as the normal perhaps we can find time to have moments of holiday whenever we can. Have a good return to the office, wherever that might be.
