My Last Post of 2016, I Think

setting-goals-for-2016

This has been a challenging year for many and a time of great loss for the global cultural community. Many of our icons and heroes have left us. Some of us have had personal situations that have tested us. We have seen political and national unrest. Life is about to get more interesting as we head into 2017.

No matter our situation we have comfort in holding close to the things that truly matter such as family, friendship and faith. In the coming year we have to come together to make a difference individually and collectively. Our world needs us now more than ever.

As bloggers we have an obligation to decrease the suck we see in the world. Our global outreach can make a true difference. No matter what we have a passion for we have to share it so others can be see the light.

My friends I wish you nothing but the best and as we look into the new year we will see great opportunities to do good things because the bad stuff will keep coming. Grace and peace everyone. Have a very Happy New Year.

Six Word Story

It’s good to see returning bloggers!

Being A Blogging Neighbor

Blogging Still RulesMany of the graphics I use on my blog come from images searched for on Google. Those images are copyrighted by their sites of origin. I use them in the spirit of non-commercial fair use. My blog is a non-profit, non-revenue generating enterprise.

I do post a lot of original pictures and do so directly on my blog and on Instagram. Those posts are a part of my story and I don’t always want them repeated without permission.

If I post something personal meaning anything related to family I do not give consent to anyone reblogging it for any reason without asking me first. Reblogging is something I do rarely but I think if involves someones private/personal life extra care should be taken. Creating your own work is what blogging is all about and not just re-posting others stuff.

Being a good blogger means being a good neighbor. Be respectful of others work and ask before doing something that might impact ones livelihood. We all blog in community and it’s important to honor the contributions of others.

Getting Personal With WordPress.com

wordpress-com-logo-decodedreviewI upgraded my blog to the Personal Plan on WordPress.com today. This means more storage (6 gigs instead of 3 gigs), ads will no longer appear on my page and my domain is active until November of next year. All of that cost me under $16 for the year, you can’t beat that. As a person who runs a personal blog I have found that I don’t need every bell and whistle and I have no plans on making any money from my site. Having the fine folks at Automattic/Wordpress.com take care of all the heavy lifting behind the scenes is something I am happy about. What this means is that I am extending my presence here for the long term so you get more of my special brand of nerdiness and dorkiness. Upgrading is a good thing.

When A Post Bombs, Yep Sometimes It Does #blogging

Insider-Advice-12-Cyber-Security-Tips-for-Bloggers-2Sometimes a post isn’t your best work. It kind of goes over like a lead balloon or something like that. You put a lot of mental effort into it or perhaps its something you think people might find interesting or inspirational. Pride in your posts can taint how you write down the road if you let it. Not every post will shine like a diamond, some will go thud. It’s interesting how people react to things online and in real life. It really is hard to please everyone but that doesn’t mean you should stop trying.

Get Out Of Your Comfort Zone

Getting out of your comfort zone requires stepping out into unchartered territory, meeting people who are different from you and perhaps picking up on the language they speak. I also think it means meeting people half way and being willing to listen and understand. Yeah it can be scary but so rewarding in the end. Growth comes from being challenged.
