Reporters and on-air personalities are among the roughly 100 ESPN employees who are expected to lose their jobs this week, in a cost-cutting move at the network that has lost millions of subscribers in recent years.
ESPN is a sports network that airs on cable TV across America. They have been the network of note for sports fans for years. Today they did a mass layoff of reporters and on-air personalities that are the face of the network. It’s a part of the changing face of how people view and consume entertainment.
To all my friends in the United Kingdom and London specifically may you be strong, resolute and most importantly carry on like you have done so many times in the past after tragedies.
May my friends in the UK be safe and comforted during this time. Incidents like these happen far too often. I hope that as more is learned about this situation that justice will prevail.
Freedom of the press is a venerated right in America. To deny well established media organizations from participating in the reporting of the days events of our government is frankly un-American. It doesn’t matter if its liberal or conservative the press should have full access to our leaders outside of revealing state secrets. The Trump administration is showing they don’t care about making us great but making us ignorant.
I am not a journalist but I am a blogger and therefore share a brother and sisterhood of those who are keeping us all informed about the world around us. When you attack a journalist who is an essential part of our democracy then you undermine society. Bloggers, journalists, writers, reporters are all a part of keeping the shadows of the world illuminated so that no one can do nefarious things that can harm people.
The notion of fake news is a subjective one but there are a lot of news outlets who are doing the hard work of reporting the facts. Sure journalists are human and they don’t always get things right but more times than not they are accurate and factual. Without them we don’t know whats going on out there. So to those who are on the front lines in the news gathering business you have my support.
For those who are not familiar with College Football it’s a very important thing in the United States. There are teams from colleges and universities from all across the country who play American football. Tonight it’s the University of Alabama Crimson Tide playing Clemson University Tigers. Both teams win a lot of games with Alabama being the best team in the country year in and year out. I will update you as the evening goes on.
