The Good Old TV And Situation Comedy

I am a child of the 1970’s and 80’s and I grew up on network TV. From WKRP in Cincinnati, Alice, All in The Family, Maude, The Golden Girls, Growing Pains, Night Court, Three’s Company, Maude, Good Times, One Day At A Time and the list goes on and on. Call me old fashioned I am still a fan of watching a TV show on an TV, live and in colour. And as a little kid I watched via an antenna over the air.

Netflix and Hulu as good as it is for binge watching it does not have the same communal feel. There are many moments on live TV that everyone experienced together at the same time.

Back in the day it was about water cooler conversations about what you saw the night before. I do realize TV is changing but it isn’t the same. I am still a fan of watching something as it comes from the source. It is also about anticipation of the next episode and watching it at the same time each week. Yes it used to be appointment TV and for many it still is. My local broadcaster also has a vested interest in my viewing for their revenue from commercials and the like.

This week we have watched some shows we hadn’t seen before and enjoyed them very much. In the world in which we live we need to laugh more, to not take life so seriously and relate to the world through comedic license. So turn on the tube and find something to laugh about.

Ridiculously Good Looking Heroes

Why do heroes have to be portrayed as ridiculously good looking people. I think in the world we live in today we can see something different. Really, can’t we have an average looking person save the day? Heroes can come in all types I think. What do you think?

TV and Twitter

Have you ever watched a TV show just to see what people are saying about it on Twitter. Sometimes the comments are better than what you see on the screen. With this multi-screen entertainment environment we have going on it makes sense to have your device running twitter while you are tuned into your favorite show. The thing about it is that it works only when the show is live and bunches of people are commenting about it at the same time. Streaming DOES NOT offer this feel of communal viewing. I am old school like this and I like to see something live and on a big screen. I like the instant feedback that Twitter provides and it does influence people to continue watching something or just leaving it behind. So enjoy TV and Twitter at the same time.

Here’s What Keeps Americans From Cutting the Cord — The Motley Fool

Very slowly, Americans are cutting the cord with traditional pay-television providers. It’s not the mass exodus that has been predicted, even though the alternatives to cable and satellite are extensive, convenient, and inexpensive.

For some this is a real choice to paying for both TV and Broadband at the same time. I still prefer to watch shows on a real TV and watching as it comes over the air live. Many folks will get a old school over-the-air antenna to get digital TV channels from their local broadcasters.

Too Much TV, So Little Time

Tonight is going to be a busy TV night. It used to be all reruns during the summer and that still holds true in some places but as of late the networks are putting first run shows on during the Summer to keep viewers engaged and watching.

Tonight we have a log jam of some shows we like so we have some decisions to make.

8:00 PM

  • Big Brother 17 on CBS
  • The Astronaut’s Wives Club on ABC

9:00 – 11:00 PM

  • Under The Dome on CBS

10:00 PM

  • Rookie Blue on ABC

We do have a DVR so we can time delay some of this. We enjoy all the shows on Thursday night and we wish some of these shows were a little more spread out.

Binge Watching Blues

The thing about binge watching a series that lasted one season is that you want more. However there is no more. That makes you sad, mad and glad you went through it. At the end you have the binge watching blues.
